A friend brought us out for lunch and he decided to bring us to Hotel Fort Canning because it’s always great to get out of the CBD and to the fringe of it during a work day. Also, he really likes the food at The Salon, so we 4 hopped into his car and went off. Mind you…we shared all the food, so don’t think that we’re big eaters or that we’re such gluttons…although I might admit and we’re bordering on it. Firstly, I really liked just being at Hotel Fort Canning because it’s relatively quiet although it’s near the...
Salmon Shioyaki With Miso Eggplant
Spotted salmon heads being sold at Meidi-ya (our go-to place for Japanese products) supermarket and they were only going for S$1.50 for half a head. Being the fish head loving girl that I am, I went on to buy 2 halves and decided to cook it the next day. Shioyaki literally means grilling with salt. As seen from the above picture, all I did was grill my salmon head with coarse sea salt and a little olive oil butter. I would recommend using liquid olive oil but alas, I ran out of it. You also should use the coarse sea...
Pasta In A Hurry
I’m a lazy cook. I also like 1 dish meals when I’m eating alone. Less to prepare and clean up. Especially when you’re home with bad cramps. Comfort foods such as soup and rice porridge does take a little longer to prepare and I didn’t have the patience. Since I still have left over Winnie The Pooh pasta, I whipped up the following brunch with the help of Ayam Brand’s Sardines. Did you know that Ayam Brand now produces Sardines that come in other things besides Tomato? Also, did you know that Ayam Brand is over 100 years old and...

Immanuel French Kitchen In a Kopitiam Is Tres Bien
In a previous posting of mine where I wrote about Good Food At Cafe Prices In A Kopitiam Near Alexandra Village, I had mentioned a few of the stalls and some of the food we ate. Since I live so nearby, the parents decided to go there again and this time around, they got their mains only from Immanuel French Kitchen. Therefore, let me introduce to you a couple more dishes from their menu. Mum ordered the Chicken Roulad (S$15.90) which came with creamed barley with shimeiji mushrooms and alfafa. The breast meat was very tender and the part nearest...
Must Trys At Kok Sen Restaurant
Nestled in the old red light district known as Keong Saik Road, is a famous and well known shop/restaurant known for their Cze Char named Kok Sen. Those who are unfamiliar with this term “cze char”, it is essentially a term to mean “stir-fry” but it denotes simple food that comes out from a piping hot wok but loaded with tons of flavours. One of my directors brought 6 of us there for lunch one day and yes, this place is good for large groups because you want to try out as many dishes as possible! So…here are a couple...
Muji Caramel Brownies
I had bought this box of Caramel Brownie mix from Muji in March but haven’t had the chance to bake them till this week. Thank goodness for packaging and to a certain extent, natural preservatives! Anyway, these pre-mix boxes were going at 30% off their usual price of S$12.90 so I figured, why not? Note to Muji: I’m not surprised that these weren’t flying off the shelf. Nobody knew that there were English instructions inside the box. I bought it because I can understand Japanese. Please stick a sticker outside stating, “English instructions inside” or something like that. Back to...
Winnie the Pooh Pasta Tricolore
I couldn’t resist this! Saw this at my supermarket and although I know that it’s gimmicky and it’s really not worth paying more for this (S$5.90), I could not help myself. Btw, there were Disney Cars and *gasp* Disney Princesses versions of this! So, for dinner…I actually ate Winnie the Pooh and friends. Tossed with stir-fried salmon, diced tomato and garlic. Yummy!! Made me happier while eating. I know…I’m such a child.
Frozen Kirin Beers
Frozen tomato and mango beer! #food #foodies #foodporn #foodstagram #foodiesunite #dessert A photo posted by melfann (@melfann) on May 8, 2015 at 7:55am PDT Yup…you read correctly. Those, my dear friends, are just 2 types of frozen beers that Kirin came up with and we drank at Shirokiya, CHIJMES. It’s really not too expensive at S$9++ per glass. It’s not a pint so it’s a tiny amount but it’s so fun to drink. The whipped part is the slushy frozen beer but the bottom is the flavoured beer that comes in the following: tomato, mango, calpis, ginger ale and if...
Cheesecake Kit Kat from Japan
Kit Kat that you bake? In Cheesecake flavour? What is this new funky thing that the Japanese have managed to whip up? We’re all starting to get used to all the wonderful flavours of Kit Kat that Japan produces (matcha, pineapple, apple, sakura plum etc.) but their latest is Cheesecake…that you can bake! I didn’t believe it so I HAD to buy a packet to try. I popped 3 chilled Kit Kats onto my trusty silicon cookie sheet and popped them into my toaster oven for 3 minutes, as per instructed. They turn into this colour which made me wonder...
