With yoga at 1.30pm and waking up at 10am, I needed a substantial brekkie without making me feel like I’m gonna puke. So, I decided to make a simple and quick Smoked Salmon Wrap! For the base, I used the leftover guacamole and then layered some rocket leaves before adding my salmon, which was smoked with Manuka! As I’m trying to eat clean, I didn’t put any mayo or cream cheese in this wrap. Instead, I added balsamic vinegar but since it’s so liquid, it slid off the salmon and you cannot see it in this photo. Dead easy, isn’t...
Beef Wrap With Caramelised Onions
I’ve been down with a stomach flu for the past 1 week and so, I wanted something that was a little light, fuss free and easy to prepare. Also, I had an over-ripened avocado. So, I turned the avocado into a very simple guacamole, which provided the creamy base and ‘sauce’ for my wrap. The recipe below makes 2 wraps. You’ll need:1 avocado1 tsp lime juice or vinegarrocket leaves30g sliced beef (I used karubi chips)1 small onion, sliced1 tsp sugarsalt & pepper to taste For the Guacamole: Mash up the avocado Add in the lime juice/vinegar and continue to mash...
Eat Clean With Chia Seed Pudding & Fresh Fig
After a day of eating rubbish as we were celebrating a friend’s birthday, today’s breakfast has to be all about clean eating. I had already prepared my chia seed pudding (made with coconut water and a bit of honey) previously. So to that, I topped it with a fresh fig and maple syrup. It was sooo yummy! It’s now the season for these large fresh figs from Turkey so do get them if you can! I bought a box of 4 from Meidi-ya for S$7.65 while another friend managed to find them at NTUC Toa Payoh. Not sure about the...
Trip Down Memory Lane At Jew Kit Restaurant
Look at this charming place with all the old Chinese tobacco and cosmetics advertisements, record player, telephone and even light switches! This place is Jew Kit and it is a chain of restaurants that specialises in Hainanese food. Especially Chicken Rice. Love that their menu comes as ‘The Jew Kit Times’! Moreover, they used this brown shade as the base so that it’s even more nostalgic in terms of look and feel. Check out that bucket! So…what did we order? Beef Hor Fun with Special Sauce Strangely enough, our mains came before our appetisers so that’s how I’m going to...
Coconut Rum Baked Bananas with Ice Cream and Hazelnut Caramel Sauce
Sweet and decadent, that’s what I’d describe my dessert here. It’s really quite simple but you just need the right ingredients. The recipe below serves 3. Ingredients (for the baked banana):1 tbsp Malibu Rum flavoured with coconut2 bananas1/4 tsp cinnamon powder1 tsp sugar (preferably brown)dollop of butterpinch of nutmeg powderraisins are optional Method Cut the banana length-wise and place in a shallow baking tray Pour the rum over the bananas Sprinkle the sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg over the bananas before adding the dollop of butter on top Bake till the sugar starts to really brown and the bananas are all...
Pork Chop With Spinach And Mozzarella
Inspired by the delicious pork chops that I ate at my aunt’s place, I decided to buy pork chops when I came back to Singapore. So here’s the first ‘chop’ that I cooked! It’s pan fried/grilled and the marinate that I used is very simple: salt, pepper, paprika powder and five spice. Once that’s cooked till pink in the middle, I sauteed some spinach with minced garlic and put it on top of the pork chop. Finally, I sprinkled a bit of mozzarella cheese on top of that and then microwaved it for 20 seconds so that the cheese would...
Salmon Confit Is Back On Saveur’s Menu
There are a few changes to Saveur’s menu, one of which is that they now have a main course portion for their popular Saveur Pasta! Those pink things are sakura ebi and honestly, I find them relatively tasteless. It’s the chilli oil and sauce that they toss the pasta in that’s delish. I’m most glad that they decided to put the Salmon Confit (S$9.90++) back on the menu! This delicious piece of fish is cooked sous vide and is mostly raw. It comes on top of crisp green apple and is topped with konbu and chives. Yummeh!! I could eat...
Multi-grain Pancakes
I put my dino into action again and this time, I made pancakes! More like hotcakes cos I like them slightly thick. For the batter, my bro bought the 4 grain mix and so, it’s made of the flour of quinoa, rice, flaxseed and wholemeal. It didn’t really look any different from regular pancake mix but I did see flecks of flaxseed. I chose to add in strawberries for one of the cakes and mozzarella cheese for the other. Both were drenched in maple syrup. Perhaps the multi-grain will help to soak up the syrup! Hur hur. Because it’s made...
Grilled Salmon with Roast Potatoes and Hollandaise Sauce
So I had leftover hollandaise sauce from breakfast and because it was so good, I HAD to eat more food with it. The solution? Lunch. I simply grilled 2 small pieces of salmon with a bit of paprika powder, parsley salt, pepper and drizzle of olive oil. In the meanwhile, I also boiled 2 small potatoes, cubed them once they’re cooked and added to the same baking tray as my fish. I drizzled some olive oil and rosemary leaves on them. Grill/bake/roast the salmon and potatoes in an oven until the salmon is done to your liking. I prefer mine...
Egg Benedict With Microwaved Hollandaise Sauce
Yup, you read the title correctly. I made hollandaise sauce with my microwave. No need to slave over a water bath and fear that your sauce will curdle! Perfect hollandaise sauce out from the microwave! Look how perfect it came out! How did I do it? I followed a recipe on AllRecipes.com (but I used vinegar instead of lemon juice) and I must say that I’m impressed at how easy it is. Ingredients2 egg yolks50g butter1 tsp vinegar (you can use lemon juice)salt & pepper to taste Method Melt the butter in the microwave for about 20-30 sec. Leave the...
