It is an annual affair where Geylang Serai is filled with tons of retail and food stalls during Ramadan. Coming alive from 4.30pm onwards, this pasar malam (night market) is definitely one that attracts everyone – and mainly for the food! This year’s bazaar will run from now till 14 June and is spread out across quite a few streets. I love bazaars and I especially love the night markets of my youth where there were stalls offering street food that aren’t normally sold in hawker centres, such as cup corn, candy floss, steamed cakes with lots of orange coloured sugar; as...
Piece of Thailand Through Artbox Singapore 2018
Went to Artbox Singapore and my friend even took the afternoon off to join me in this pop-up container market at Bayfront Event Space, which is next to Marina Bay Sands. I didn’t go to Artbox Singapore last year (although I wanted to) thanks to the numerous Facebook posts about the crowd, the heat and sheer madness of it all. Thank goodness the organisers took the feedback and have made this year a lot more enjoyable by making it almost three times larger than 2017’s, increased the width of the walkways and introduced 1 more dining space so that people...
Ginza Tendon Itsuki’s Tempura Donburi
My friend has been raving about Ginza Tendon Itsuki’s Tempura Donburi for ages and with the long snaking queue outside the restaurant, I had to check it out. They only have 2 things on the menu: Special Tendon (S$13.90++) or Vegetable Tendon (S$12.90++), and they serve chawanmushi as well as miso soup alongside. The chawanmushi was very flavourful, smooth and light. Perfect to slurp on while waiting for the Tendon to arrive. Do note that there’s free flow of pickled vegetables too. I must say that I was most impressed with the tempura egg! Check out the video above where...
$10 Wagyudon with Onsen Egg
I had already read much about this S$10 gyudon stall at the famous Amoy Food Centre, which serves up “Instagrammable” beef rice bowls topped with onsen egg that oozes yolk when burst. I finally got to try the dish when the store, Gyu Nami, did a flash sale on Qoo10 where I only paid S$4.99 for this! Gyu Nami only serves this one dish – wagyu beef rice bowl. And it is a really good deal. Started in August 2017, Gyu Nami is on the second floor of Amoy Food Centre and don’t be fooled if you do not see...

Wholesome Savour New Vegan Menu
Welcome to the newly revamped menu of Wholesome Savour, a more casual dining cafe of its sister Frunatic. Similar to Frunatic, the food served at Wholesome Savour serves vegan food that contains no gluten, no dairy, no peanuts, no eggs and no preservatives. All their ingredients are also washed with alkaline ionised water to remove pesticides! They don’t like to sell themselves as vegan though. That’s because they’re more about promoting eating well nutritionally and they believe that you only need to go meatless once a week to nourish your body and ensure that your natural detoxification occurs at an...

Gu Thai Thai Noodles
What do you eat after a yoga session that ends at 9.30pm? Why…you go for a late dinner at a nearby Thai restaurant that opens till late! Welcome to my introduction to Thai Boat Noodles as served by Gu Thai Noodles in POMO. Why is it called Boat Noodles and do the noodles come in some fancy boat-like contraption? Nay. Thai Boat Noodles are so-called because they were originally served from boats that traversed Bangkok’s canals and that is also why the bowl is usually small, for the convenience and safety of the merchant as they were often one-person show;...
World’s First Tokidoki Pop Up Cafe
I went to the World’s first Tokidoki Pop Up Cafe earlier this month and I’ve been too busy to post it till now. However, I’ve decided to post my review at my other blog www.melfann.com instead of this food blog because…it is just so cute and had merchandise etc. Side note: me wonders why I didn’t get an invite to their media launch. Hmmm.
Need Your Help To Name Some Kombucha Flavours
I’m so excited to share with you my latest product – kombucha! Well…technically speaking, it isn’t new since I have been teaching people how to make booch since last year. However, I’m now ready to do retail and I need your help. I have a few flavours of kombucha going and I would like to give them some catchy names instead of the usual “Ginger Lemon” or something of those sorts. If you checked out kombucha.thewellnessinsider.sg, you’ll realise that my Ginger Turmeric Kombucha is actually named “Bye Bye Flu”. You get the drift. Here’s YOUR chance to help me come up with...
