Magistracy Dining Room at Hong Kong’s Tai Kwun has launched a refreshed summer dining experience, featuring a seasonal menu by Executive Chef Alyn Williams, as well as new midday and afternoon tea offerings.

Drawing inspiration from classic British cuisine, the latest menus celebrate seasonal ingredients and traditional cooking techniques while giving familiar favourites a contemporary update.

Seasonal British Dishes Take Centre Stage

The new menu builds on Magistracy Dining Room’s reputation for refined British cooking, with both signature favourites and new seasonal creations making an appearance.

Among the returning highlights is the Double-Baked Lincolnshire Poacher Soufflé, served with heirloom tomatoes and tomato caramel dressing.

New starters include:

  • Lobster Tart, featuring poached Canadian lobster, Sauternes-marinated apples, celery and chestnuts inspired by the classic Waldorf salad
  • Acorn-Fed Ham Toasted Crumpet, topped with a poached egg and preserved truffle vinaigrette
  • Prawn Bisque with basil crème fraîche and brioche croutons
  • Heritage Courgettes layered with herb bavarois and crème fraîche

Together, the dishes reflect the bright, ingredient-led flavours of the British summer season.

Seafood, British Butchery and Seasonal Produce

The refreshed menu continues with a selection of seafood, meat and vegetarian mains showcasing seasonal produce.

Seafood lovers can look forward to the Steamed Seabass, delicately cooked over herbs and served with basil and caviar velouté, while the plant-based Seasonal Asparagus and Japanese Leafy Turnip pairs pearl barley with a smoky char-grilled vegetable broth.

For heartier appetites, Chef Williams presents:

  • Dingley Dell Pluma with black pudding, apple meatball and pork jus
  • Woodland Deer Venison Loin accompanied by morels, peas and venison jus
  • Baked Potato Gnocchi with grilled broccoli, pine nut dressing, lemon and olive oil for a lighter option

Each dish reflects the restaurant’s modern interpretation of traditional British cooking.

British Desserts with a Modern Touch

Classic British desserts remain an important part of the dining experience.

Guests can finish their meal with favourites including:

  • Crème Brûlée with speculoos biscuits
  • Cherry Bakewell Tart with whipped crème fraîche
  • Sticky Toffee Pudding
  • Arctic Roll

These desserts continue the restaurant’s focus on nostalgic British flavours presented with refined execution.

New Midday Menu Available Thursday to Saturday

Alongside the evening menu, Magistracy Dining Room has introduced a dedicated Midday Menu, available from Thursday to Saturday.

Designed for leisurely daytime dining, the set menu offers two- or three-course options featuring lighter seasonal dishes.

Starters include the Magistracy Summer Salad, Pea and Watercress Vichyssoise, and Heritage Tomato and Acorn-Fed Ham Crumpets.

Main course choices range from Three Yellow Chicken Pie and Steamed Cornish Hake to Roasted Pigeon and Saffron and Mascarpone Risotto, before ending with desserts such as Sticky Toffee Pudding or Summer Strawberries with meringue and whipped crème fraîche.

Weekend Afternoon Tea Inspired by British Traditions

Also making its debut is a new Afternoon Tea, served every Friday and Saturday from 1pm.

The experience features a selection of savoury favourites including:

  • Scottish Smoked Salmon Finger Sandwiches
  • Roasted Chicken on Toasted Crumpet
  • Magistracy Mini Sausage Rolls
  • Cheese and Pickle Toasties
  • Cheddar Shortbread with Truffle Chantilly

Freshly baked mixed scones with clotted cream and preserves are followed by an assortment of pastries and sweets, including jasmine tea madeleines, raspberry rose macarons and matcha apple choux.
