It’s that time of the year to book your festive dining venues and if you’re still wondering where to go, we’ve shortlisted a few places that offer a variety of foods to cater to all whims and fancies…while still retaining some traditional flavours. Go ahead and indulge yourselves this season!
Festive Cakes from The Pine Garden
If you want a local twist on the traditional log cakes, then The Pine Garden is your go-to place. We recommend the Milo Konglong Espresso log, especially if you’re a fan of the Milo dinosaur drink. They’ve managed to put that concept into a cake and there’s a sachet of milo powder for you to really give it the ‘dinosaur’ experience. Do note that it will be a bit messy while doing so but it’s also oh so fun! The chocolate cake is rich and moist with smooth undertones of coffee.
The Pine Garden has also come up with the Apple Jealous Log that features Apple Cider Vinegar and Cinnamon so that it’s both sweet and tangy. It’s got a delicate cider vinegar cream as well as a refreshing jelly that has a dash of white wine. It’s definitely very different from your usual apple pie.
They also have the Hei Sesame & Yam Log which features nutty black sesame cream and velvety yam orh-ni, all wrapped up in a light fluffy Swiss roll. It’s not too sweet, so this will appeal to the seniors or those who don’t really like the extremely sweet stuff.
Indulgent treats at Tiong Bahru Bakery
Available from now to 25 December, TBB’s Chocolate Log Cake is a classic with luscious chocolate mousse cake featuring hidden layers of buttery praline and almond cake, enrobed in a silky chocolate glaze, all sitting atop a delicate crumble base. For those who prefer something a bit more aromatic, then try the Orange & Ginger Tea Cake, a combination of warm, spiced flavours of ginger and candied orange, make it a treat to share. Both cakes are available for pre-order as a whole cake that serves six to eight or as individual slices in-stores.
Till the end of the month, the festive lineup will expand with four more offerings to delight every palate. For a sweet indulgence, the Maple Pecan Cruffin blends flaky, buttery croissant layers with the comforting sweetness of creamy maple custard and the crunch of caramelised pecans. Savoury lovers will relish the Roast Turkey, Pesto & Provolone Sandwich – a delicious medley of basil pesto, sun-dried tomatoes, guindilla peppers, turkey ham, provolone, Gruyere, arugula, Caesar dressing and almonds, all sandwiched between TBB’s ciabatta.
