The GUILD International College has partnered with newly launched Flourish Bakehouse to provide pre-vocational training to students of diverse needs who are studying at their campus in Phoenix Park on Tanglin Road.
Launched in September by local veteran educators Jayne Nadarajoo and Ganesh Kanapathy, The GUILD International College provides further education for differently-abled students to learn and thrive in a non-academic environment. Flourish Bakehouse will be the first of many opportunities the college aims to provide its students for them to be able to receive on the job style training and gain real life work experience.
Students of The GUILD International College will be guided by their designated Job Coach who educates the students on communication skills with hands-on pre-vocational training in the areas of job readiness, food service, retail, grocery industry and clerical.
Founding Director of The GUILD, Jayne Nadarajoo remarked, “We are most happy to have Flourish Bakehouse at our college as they are advocates for inclusion. Together, we work towards creating opportunities for students to gain real work experiences at the college to help increase their chances of employability after graduation.”
While the training at Flourish Bakehouse will allow students to acquire hands-on experience to practice work skills and operational activities. The GUILD International College will also work towards helping their students to attain the Work Right Certificate accredited by ASDAN UK to show future employers that they possess the relevant skills to work for them.
Open 7-days a week, Flourish Bakehouse offers dine in and take-away options. The dog, child and family-friendly establishment has a wide selection of pastries including Raspberry & Pistachio Friand, Coffee & Cardamon Walnut Cake, and gluten-free Lemon Polenta Cake.
Other highlights include Brown Butter Pumpkin & Sage Quiche and Ham Leek & Parmesan Scone. The bakehouse is set to offer açai bowls, yoghurt pots with house-made granola and sandwiches from $10 to $15 nett.
Flourish Bakehouse features a luscious alfresco area with an option to picnic on the lawn, as well as indoor seating of the minimalistic, black and white café that complements the building’s colonial style architecture.
“The Guild also offers weekday and weekend classes in woodworking, art, music, cooking, Mandarin, dance, and yoga catering to both children and adults. It’s a great place for a family outing as we have something for everyone,” added Nadarajoo.
