After more than a century in Katong, Chin Mee Chin Confectionery has opened its first outlet outside the neighbourhood.
The heritage bakery’s second location opened at NEX on 8 August 2026, bringing its familiar kaya toast, kopi and freshly baked buns to Serangoon alongside several new dishes, pastries and drinks.
The original East Coast Road outlet will remain open, while the NEX branch introduces the brand to a new group of customers.

A Century of Kaya Toast and Kopi
Chin Mee Chin began in 1925 as a bread delivery business founded by Hainanese immigrant Tan Hui Dong. It later expanded into a neighbourhood confectionery known for its kaya toast, coffee and fresh bakes.
At NEX, the classic toast sets remain a central part of the menu. Priced at S$6.50, each set includes toasted buns, soft-boiled eggs and a hot drink.
Customers can choose the bakery’s house-made kaya, prepared using the family’s longstanding recipe, or familiar alternatives such as peanut butter and butter sugar toast.
Familiar Bakes and New Savoury Dishes
Daily bakes include longstanding favourites such as:
- Luncheon Meat Bun — S$2.80
- Otah Bun — S$2.80
- Hae Bee Hiam Bun — S$2.80
The NEX outlet has also introduced several more substantial dishes:
- Curry Potato Pie — S$3.80
- Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken Cutlet — S$10.80
- Grilled Kaffir Lime Chicken Sandwich — S$8.80
These additions sit alongside the traditional buns and breakfast sets rather than replacing them.

Kaya and Chocolate Choux au Craquelin
Chin Mee Chin’s kaya cream puff has been reworked as the Kaya Custard Choux au Craquelin.
The pastry has a crisp craquelin shell filled with the bakery’s house-made kaya custard. A new Dark Chocolate Choux au Craquelin is also available.
Both flavours are priced at S$3 each or S$10 for a box of four.

New Cloud Kopi Drinks
Traditional kopi and teh remain available, together with two new coffee-based drinks:
- Kaya Cloud Kopi — S$5.50
- Salted Gula Melaka Cloud Kopi — S$5.50
The drinks add flavoured cream toppings to local coffee, drawing on familiar ingredients such as kaya and gula melaka.
A Mall Outlet Inspired by the Katong Original
The design of the NEX branch takes cues from Chin Mee Chin’s Katong shophouse.
Pastel colours, rounded forms and decorative elements associated with the original confectionery have been adapted for the shopping mall setting. Open bakery displays and a visible coffee counter allow customers to watch some of the food and drinks being prepared.
