Singapore will once again steep itself in the rich traditions of Japanese tea culture as the Japan Tea Festival returns on 10 October 2025 at the Jubilee Ballroom, Four Points Hotel. Organised by the Japan Tea Industry Association with the support of JETRO and JFOODO, this one-day festival will bring together over 15 tea-producing regions of Japan, offering a rare chance for tea lovers and curious foodies to explore the country’s tea heritage in one place .
A Celebration of Diversity in Japanese Tea
Japan’s geography and climates produce an extraordinary variety of teas. This year’s festival will showcase everything from Kyoto’s famed Uji sencha to rare small-batch teas like kama-iri cha, which accounts for less than 0.3% of Japan’s green tea production. Attendees can expect tastings of award-winning teas such as Yame Sencha Genji and Asagiri Shizuku, alongside innovative blends like Tsushima black tea with yuzu peel .
Live Sencha Ceremony and Pairings
One of the highlights will be a live Obaku Baisa-ryu Sencha-do ceremony led by Professor Sosen Nakai. Guests can watch the refined artistry of sencha preparation — a performance that is rarely seen outside Japan. The festival will also feature Japanese sweets paired with teas, curated by ABC Cooking Studio Singapore, designed to showcase how flavours can enhance and complement one another.
More Than Just Tea: Cultural Collaborations
Beyond tastings, cultural partnerships will enrich the festival atmosphere. Visitors can connect with Fukujuen Singapore, a Kyoto tea house, and lifestyle partners such as Japan Rail Café and JTB Singapore, bringing a fuller experience of Japanese culture.
Why It Matters
Tea in Japan is more than a beverage — it represents history, wellness, mindfulness, and togetherness. Once reserved for monks and nobility, teas like sencha and gyokuro have become beloved daily rituals, while matcha has evolved into a global café staple. For Singapore’s F&B professionals, the festival also offers opportunities to explore collaborations, menu inspiration, and sourcing directly from Japanese producers.
